Selling automotive parts efficiently on Amazon
In this article, we'll give you tips for getting started selling automotive parts on Amazon and discuss in detail how to maximise your potential. Selling automotive parts is no longer limited to garages and physical stores. The world of online automotive sales is booming and Amazon is the ideal destination for customers who want access to a vast selection at competitive prices, together with faster shipping.
Why sell automotive parts online?
Selling through Amazon is a great way to reach customers all around the world. The average age of cars has increased significantly in recent years and now many consumers are choosing to extend that lifespan by turning to Amazon to find the replacement parts they need.
I’ve created my account: what are the best practices to follow?
Whether you're already well-established in the automotive industry, new to e-commerce or ready to create your digital storefront, there are a few factors you need to consider when selling automotive parts online.
Decide which products you want to sell
Even if you already know the type of products you want to sell, some research may reveal opportunities that are worth exploring. Selling on Amazon makes it easy to check which products are the most popular: this allows you to anticipate trends and react to changes that will define the automotive sector in the years to come.
Determine your shipping strategy
Dimensions and weight are important when storing and shipping automotive parts. A spare bedroom or garage may be enough to cover your storage needs when you're starting out, but as you grow, you may want to coordinate with a solution like Fulfilment by Amazon for storage, customer service and other tasks.
List your products for sale and set competitive prices
When you're ready to list products, consider including a variety of high-quality photos and using key points to highlight product features and benefits. To set a competitive price, research the competition to see how much comparable items sell for.
Add compatibility information (if required)
If your listings are only compatible with specific vehicles, make sure you've added relevant information using our internal compatibility tool. When buying automotive parts, customers need to know which items are right for their vehicle: this can help increase conversion rates and sales and reduce compatibility-related returns.
To bulk add compatibility information, you can use the Master Vehicle List (MVL). The MVL is a repository of data on vehicles used in a specific region. This list is now available to all automotive selling partners on Amazon. Using it for your catalogue will help customers find your products. The MVL provides you with a unique KTYPE for each vehicle.

Why is it crucial to include vehicle compatibility when selling automotive parts on Amazon?
When selling automotive spare parts, compatibility between the vehicle model and the part is essential. Without this information, there is a high risk of errors and returns.
To solve this problem, Amazon has created a vehicle database, making it easy for both sellers and buyers to find the right parts for each vehicle. This resource helps to minimise compatibility issues and ensures a smoother buying and selling process on the website.
