Selling automotive parts efficiently on Amazon

In this article, we provide information on how you can add vehicle compatibility information efficiently for your automotive parts listings on Amazon. When purchasing automotive parts, customers need to know what items fit their vehicle. Below, we outline the process for adding vehicle compatibility information to your listings, which can help ensure higher conversion, higher sales and reduced compatibility-related returns.

Why focus on vehicle compatibility as a selling partner?

Adding compatible vehicle data to your listings via Part Finder is a great way to ensure that customers are purchasing the part they are looking for. We highly recommend adding compatibility information to your listings for your search rankings to be optimal, which will turn into potentially higher conversions and a better customer experience.

How do you add compatibility information to your listing?

a) Listing by listing

In the navigation bar in Seller Central or Vendor Central, click on “Inventory” and “Manage Part Finder”. Click on Add ASIN and follow the step-by-step instructions. Add compatibility information for your listing using the pre-filled form.

b) Bulk upload

i) Refer to Master Vehicle List (MVL) to look up Ktypes
To proceed with a bulk upload, you need to add compatibility information using the Master Vehicle List (MVL). The MVL is a data repository of vehicles that are currently operating in the region. This list is now available to all selling partners selling automotive items on Amazon; it provides information to help ensure parts compatibility.

The MVL list provides you with a unique KTYPE for each vehicle. Download the MVL for all covered locales below:
Terms of Use
The data contained in the Master Vehicle List (MVL) may only be used in connection with the listing of products on Amazon for the following countries: Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Poland. The MVL will also contain compatibility data for Austria-based customers, which will be used on the German Amazon Store. The right to use the MVL is dependent on the provision of the MVL by Amazon. If Amazon stops providing the MVL your right of use automatically expires.

The MVL may only be used in connection with new parts. Use of the data contained in the MVL (“Data”) for the used parts trade is not permitted. Used parts are the parts that have previously been fitted to a vehicle, with the exclusion of replacement parts or parts that are remanufactured or reconditioned. Any further use or dissemination of the Data is strictly prohibited. Unauthorised use of the Data will result in damage claims of the rights holders and may also result in fines or other penalties. In accessing and using the MVL to place an offer within the Amazon online stores for Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Poland, the user must abide by the obligation to assess the compatibility of the spare parts with a given model of vehicle lodged by the user. The MVL will also contain compatibility data for Austria-based customers, which will be used on the German Amazon Store.

When downloading and using the MVL, the above Terms of Use apply and are accepted by users.

ii) Submit compatibility information for your listing
Access the Fitment Tool on Seller Central or Vendor Central. In the navigation menu, click on Inventory and Manage Part Finder. Click on Bulk Upload, and download a sample of our Vehicle Fitments Bulk Upload file. Use the MVL to extract KTYPEs of compatible vehicles for your listings and fill in the template accordingly in the sample file (columns VehicleId and VehicleIdType). Once you are done filling in the file, you can upload it.

Next steps?

We recommend using the MVL to add compatibility information to your current and future listings. The MVL is updated every monthly. Check this page regularly for an updated version and ensure new vehicles are added to your listings regularly.
